Who We Are
Officially declared a project team by Cornell University in 2022, Cornell University Biomedical Device (CUBMD) is a team of multidisciplinary undergraduate students formed under a shared interest in biomedical device innovation to advance healthcare further. Numerous deficiencies exist in the cost-efficiency and efficacy of devices being used in surgery— often due to a lack of better technology and unregulated pricing that create excessive and needless financial burdens for those seeking medical aid. The collaborative nature of our approach enables us to conduct extensive gap-driven research and communicate with experts across a variety of fields. CUBMD engages in nationwide engineering competitions and develops its ideas with the vision of patenting and ultimately, bringing our devices to market to set a precedent for the future of biotechnology. The decisions and ideas we make now will be the foundation on which we will shape our future. Our mission is to identify contemporary problems in the field of biomedical devices, design and innovate solutions to said problems, and work to bring our solutions to the market where they can do the greatest good.
Why Donate?
Our mission is to do the best good in the world as possible. This involves delivering a product that is both efficient and effective. The biomedical design process is an intensive process requiring special materials, professional input, and modern technology. By donating to CUBMD, CUBMD can gain access to newer production materials such as 3D printers, and leverage healthcare connections by attending more conferences/events. With your help, CUBMD can reach new heights and continue to be one of the fastest-growing project teams at Cornell University!
Our Team
CUBMD is split into four collaborative subteams: Product Development, Outreach, Media, and Business. Product Development is responsible for the physical creation of the product, including the electrical, hardware, programming, and communication of the device. Outreach is responsible for contacting experts and/or professionals to help with clinical outreach, as well as plan competition travel for CUBMD. Media designs content for CUBMD social media and is responsible for taking photos of the team in social and professional content. Business is responsible for streamlining the processes said above, as well as spearheading finance operations and market analysis for future products. CUBMD consists of students across a variety of majors and colleges. These include, but are not limited to, Biological and Biomedical Engineering, Global and Public Health Studies, Computer Science, Biology, and more! These specialties allow for a wide, diverse set of perspectives and result in the formation of a unique product that possesses strength and novelty.
The Process
CUBMD has developed a thorough bio-design process founded on strong communication and detailed analysis. With this approach, we operate on an accelerated one-year timeline. In the fall, the team divides into smaller brainstorming groups to research the engineering, marketing, and policy implementation of potential biomedical device ideas. After heavily examining the novelty and impact of the top ideas, the team collectively decides on a device to pursue.
In the spring semester, as our product development team sources parts and begins prototyping/product testing, the business subteam focuses on mapping the ideal path to market and raises funds for continued device development. The outreach subteam consults physicians, engineers, and other professionals for guidance throughout the prototyping process while also organizing competition submissions. After a final product is created, CUBMD can begin to attend regional competitions and conferences, and ultimately, file for a final patent!
Thank you for donating $10! This will allow CUBMD to purchase vital components and pieces to utilize in our biomedical devices!
Thank you so much for your $25 donation! With this, CUBMD can cover the costs needed to send its members to Cayuga Medical Center to gather important patient data, test product efficiency, and connect with the community!
CUBMD values looking towards the future! With your generous $50 donation, CUBMD can cover the necessary fees for training programs such as PCB training. By using these programs, CUBMD can train newer generations and give them valuable skillsets that are applicable to their futures!
New talent is needed to constantly maintain a growing project team. With your generous $100 donation, CUBMD can cover the costs needed to print out CUBMD professional banners. Using these, CUBMD can more effectively recruit curious new applicants with a desire to create change in the medical community!
CUBMD undergoes intensive product testing, including using labs to test chemical reagents. With your immense donation of $250, CUBMD can purchase specialized lab equipment such as micropipettes to boost the quality of designed biomedical products! Furthermore, your donation gives current and future CUBMD members the chance to work with specialized equipment they may have never gotten to use before!
Prototyping can be extremely tedious; therefore, it is immensely helpful to have a product that you can view and interact with hands-on. With your gracious and generous offer of $500, CUBMD can purchase a new 3D printer to allow members the opportunity to print out improved variations of biomedical devices and gain design skills!
Competitions and conferences are CUBMD's method of networking and gaining connections with real-world health leaders. By donating, your immense donation of $1000 can cover the costs of sending multiple CUBMD members to conferences across the nation!!
