American Choral Directors Association Conference

We need your help!

This is a groundbreaking year for the Cornell University Chorus! The Chorus is honored by its acceptance to the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conference this March, since attending would provide the Chorus with the opportunity to continue its legacy as an American premier collegiate ensemble. As we embark on many musical journeys, including this conference, a January tour to the southern United States, and the first full performance of Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” in Ithaca since 1957, your support would make the difference. Your gift would help the Chorus to partake in this conference. Thank you in advance for your support in lifting the Chorus!

About the American Choral Directors Association Conference

The Cornell University Chorus has secured a rare honor: an invitation to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in March 2018. More than a thousand choral conductors attend the conference, along with hundreds of other professionals in the industry. Many choirs of all levels, from children through adult professionals, audition to take part in the conference, and very few are selected — this is the first time the Cornell Chorus has been honored with an invitation. Chorus members are hopeful that this opportunity to perform will help Cornell refresh and maintain its reputation as one of the top American collegiate choral programs, and will pay dividends for admissions, touring, and collaborations for years to come.

About the Cornell University Chorus

Founded in 1920, the Cornell University Chorus is Cornell's premier treble voice ensemble. The ensemble has gained a reputation as one of the nation's outstanding treble choirs. Comprising of sixty individuals from a variety of backgrounds, the Chorus performs a repertoire spanning eight centuries and ten languages, including masses, motets, spirituals, folk, and a variety of other classical and contemporary pieces. Since 2001, the Chorus has made a special point of commissioning new works from women composers with the goal of expanding the contemporary repertoire for treble voices. The Chorus performs annually during Convocation, First-Year Parents’ Weekend, Senior Week, Commencement, and Reunion Weekend, and has created an off-campus presence through events such as weekend choral festivals, community service, and off-campus retreats. Additionally, the Chorus also periodically collaborates with the Cornell University Glee Club for the performance of major works, including the recent joint commission of Roberto Sierra’s Cantares at Carnegie Hall, the Martin Mass, and Verdi's Requiem.

In the past several years, the Chorus has added to its achievements numerous successful student-planned tours of New England, the Midwest, the Southeastern United States, California and Canada. The Chorus has also completed a number of international tours, including a trip to Taiwan in 1998, Italy in 2005, and joint tours with the Glee Club to Venezuela in 2001, China in 2008 and Mexico & Guatemala in 2016.
