We have four alumni and one recruiter coming to speak with A&S students about their career this month! Our Career Conversations program is extremely popular, as it allows students to talk with real professionals who are actually working in career fields of interest to them. They can ask questions of and learn about the alum’s careers, getting insider information they couldn’t get from anywhere else. We currently host these in classrooms around the Arts Quad, but in our new space we will have a conference room and can host them there! A beautiful new space will show students and visiting alumni how greatly Cornell values preparing its students for meaningful careers.
We greatly appreciate the support of those who've already given! Thank you!
Today is our Undergraduate Research Fair! We teamed up with the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board and the Office of Undergraduate Research to host a fair showing students the wide variety of research opportunities on campus! This is a great chance for undergraduates to find ways to get career-related experience during the school year. We are doing all sorts of cool events and initiatives in A&S Career Services – we want our new beautiful space to show it as well!
In addition to the 200 students who attended the Research Fair last week, we've already met with over 150 individual students for career exploration, resume critiques, mock interviews, and general job/internship search advising this month. Fifty of these students are freshmen! Students are securing jobs and internships and connecting with alumni. Imagine what we can accomplish in more welcoming, media connected space.
This is the time of year when many smaller employers have positions open up in time for senior or internship hiring and large employers begin thinking about recruiting for next year. Several top employers like Bridgewater and Boeing have reached out to Career Services to plan recruiting for next year and they want Arts & Sciences graduates. We look forward to hosting them in our new space. Help us create a vibrant atmosphere for connecting students with employers.
Speaking of employers, don't forget to ask yours about matching gifts.
Thirteen students were awarded Summer Experience Grants to help cover cost-of-living expenses for unpaid or minimally paid career-related summer experiences. This grant, administered by Arts & Sciences Career Services, was made possible through the Student Assembly Students Helping Students fund. We are thrilled to be able to provide these grants and support students in their career exploration!
I just got off a chat through Brazen Careerist and there are so many great opportunities to use this platform to connect students with alumni and employers around the world. This could be a great way to assist students looking for work on the West Coast, abroad, or anywhere else. For $10,000 a year, we could connect close to 3,000 students with alumni and employers to learn about careers and specific job and internship opportunities.
The possibilities for using technology to connect students with career opportunities are growing. As you know, we connected over 700 students with over 100 alumni last year alone. Imagine what we can do with more resources.
