Who We Are

The Sephardi & Mizrahi Council is a student group at Cornell aimed at spreading the warmth and wisdom of Sephardi & Mizrahi tradiitons to the larger Cornell community. In doing so we aim to enrich our members' understanding of their own origins and identities, while also creating experiences that spread awareness and appreciation of our minority group.

About Our Project

This project will bring a group of Cornell students and faculty to Israel for one week in order to enrich the greater Cornell community's understanding of Sephardi history and traditions. The trip will be focused on telling the history of Jews in Israel and students will learn about methods by which Israel society simultaneously upheld and oppressed Jewish communities for thousands of years, up until their mass exodus in the 20th century. Students will be engaging with members of the Jewish community as well as experts in history and geopolitics in the Middle East.

Additionally, students will be engaged in service projects aimed at providing food and other essential resources for communities that are experiencing hardships due to the current political situation. This hands-on involvement will offer students a deeper insight into the challenges faced by these communities and a chance to actively contribute to their well-being during their time in Israel.
