The Undergraduate Student Veterans Program Director, in collaboration with the Veteran and Military-Connected Student Ambassadors, provides support and community to military-connected students seeking to pursue their higher education goals at Cornell University. Although many veterans make the decision to attend college after serving, students may perceive an Ivy League education to be “out of reach”. With your assistance, we can continue to build support, services, and programming to serve those who have served our country by perpetuating Cornell’s mission of “...any person... any study.”
Student veterans bring unique needs to the table that most traditional-aged students do not. Several have families (spouses and children) and most bring with them financial responsibilities outside of the academic. The various GI Bills provide modest financial support; however, it often falls short of providing for basic needs and costs of living. Additionally, we strive to provide funding which allows student veterans to fully embrace their academic journey though semester and summer experiences, professional development, orientation events, resource fairs specifically hosting veteran-supportive organizations, and recognition at commencement events. With your support, we can assist student veterans with these and other costs, i.e., exorbitant childcare expenses, emergency funds for daily essentials, provide opportunities to present at and attend professional conferences, purchase professional attire, and support attendance at networking events.
