B.O.S.S. - Mental Health Summit

Who We Are

Building Ourselves through Sisterhood and Service (B.O.S.S.) is a student-run peer mentorship program for self-identified women of color at Cornell University. B.O.S.S. is dedicated to easing the transition to college for students by fostering genuine relationships between upperclassmen and underclassmen women of color. B.O.S.S. also encourages high academic and personal standards, inspires community service, and provides access to helpful campus resources. In this way, B.O.S.S. is instrumental in creating warmth, growth, and connection for Cornellian women of color.

Mental Health Summit

Each year, B.O.S.S. hosts our annual Mental Health Summit in order to address the unique challenges that women of color face. The Summit is a two-day event that begins with an evening of group bonding to allow attendees to unwind and build community before the conference. The next day, we invite student leaders, certified mental health professionals, and a keynote speaker to host workshops and seminars for the attendees. The Summit is open not only to Cornell students, but to the broader Ithaca community and neighboring universities. Our goal is to create an inclusive space for women of color to connect with one another and improve mental wellbeing.

Our Goals

The Mental Health Summit provides an opportunity for women of color to:

  • learn evidence-based strategies for managing stress and regulating emotions
  • reflect on the intersection of womanhood and racial identity
  • address mental health challenges
  • build a supportive community for women of color
