Founded in 2003, Les Femmes de Substance is a student-run organization that provides professional development to women of color at Cornell University. In 2023, Les Femmes will celebrate 20 years of empowering women to pursue any and every aspiration by providing a foundation of sisterhood, educational experiences, and mentorship. Through our Annual Women of Substance Retreat and on-campus programming, we continue to remain committed to our values of Mentorship, Excellence, Sisterhood, and Diligence as we work to develop our best professional selves. Please join us as we strive to create women of substance, who will make every effort to give back to and build up their surrounding communities.
Our annual Women of Substance Retreat is instrumental to fulfilling our mission of inspiring women to give back to their communities as women of substance. During the off-campus retreat each Spring, the Les Femmes executive board invites the women of Cornell to spend a weekend participating in workshops and social events that teach essential skills and foster success in all future endeavors. Les Femmes de Substance knows that representation of women of color in the professional world matters, and that access to these successful women and mentors who they can relate to is essential as they navigate their career paths. Our retreat and campus programming thus help to affirm and support the empowerment of women of color as we work to break through professional barriers and ignite our passions.
We have been fortunate to hold this retreat since 2005 because of the donations from generous organizations and alumni. If you are interested in supporting our 16th Annual Women of Substance Retreat as we prepare to celebrate 20 Years of Substance in 2023, please support our fundraiser for $5,000. The total amount raised will directly support the costs of the retreat, especially as we aim to keep the price of attendance as low as possible so that our learning opportunities are accessible to all women of color at Cornell.
