Nearly two years ago, your support helped fund much-needed renovations and upgrades to WVBR's transmitter shack, so we wanted to share an update on our latest work there. To kick off a new academic year, several Cornell Media Guild students and alumni spent an August afternoon giving the shack its first paint job in over 30 years, in addition to some other clean-up work. With its new roof and a fresh coat of paint, the shack will continue to keep WVBR-FM on air, serving the Cornell and Ithaca communities for many years to come. Thanks again for helping sustain student-run media!
Thanks to your support, we are thrilled to report that the WVBR-FM transmitter shack has a new, watertight roof. The original 1962 roof had far outlived its useful lifespan and had several holes. The roof has been completely replaced, and it came in under-budget thanks to a non-profit rate provided by a local roofer. Remaining funds will allow us to upgrade critical equipment and begin tackling maintenance projects at our Olbermann-Corneliess Studios at 604 E. Buffalo St. We couldn't have done it without you, and we're so grateful for your help in keeping student-run media on air.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Cornell Media Guild / WVBR-FM as we invest in our broadcast and transmission facilities. We're thrilled by the outpouring of support from our friends and listeners, and excited to continue bringing music, news, and other content over the airwaves. Not only is CMG a great hands-on learning experience for students, it's also a close-knit community of friends, colleagues, and alumni.
With four days remaining in our crowdfunding campaign, we're over 65% of the way toward our goal, and we're fortunate to have a challenge from one of our distinguished alumni to help get us to the finish line. For each dollar raised past our 50% mark, CMG alumnus Jon Rubinstein '78 will match that, contributing up to an additional $5,000. Help spread the word to supporters of college radio and student media as we proceed with these critical infrastructure updates. And thank you, Jon, for supporting the next generation of Cornellians in media!
