Happy Holidays and Bill Nye Visit

November 28, 2017

Hello Baja Community!

Happy Giving Tuesday! From our team to you, we hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by friends and family. In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, our team would like to take the time and thank our donors and supporters that have donated to our crowdfunding campaign, making it so successful!

Thanks to your generous donations, our crowdfunding campaign has raised over $34,000! We've just begun manufacturing and ended our design process, so all of those donations are being put to use towards the tools and materials we need as well as towards supporting the traveling costs of our team members to competition. Thank you again for your generous support and donations.

Check out the picture below! We were visited by one of the university's famous alumni, Bill Nye! He visited our lab and our members were ecstatic to see him and talk to him about our project. He was very proud of the growing successes of the engineering project teams!

Extending Our Goal & Starting Manufacturing!

November 10, 2017

Hello Baja Community!

Thank you to all of our donors who helped us reach our initial goal in less than 48 hours! It means so much to each of us, and we can't thank our donors enough for the love and support. Now, we have the chance to stretch our goal to make our 2017 Baja car even better. With an additional $10,500, our team will be able to afford valuable torque sensors, communication hardware for radios, time of flight sensors for the CVT dynamometer, and other materials such as foam for composite layups/making molds that we are running short on. These additional supplies will give us a better chance at making our car the best in competition by allowing us to more accurately and quickly test, diagnose, and fix shortcomings with our car before our first competition in April. Again, we thank all of our donors in helping us achieve our dreams.

Additionally, we are excited to announce the passage of our final design review of the year! You know what that means - now it's time to start building. We are currently assembling a large metal stock order to kick off the process of manufacturing our car from scratch. Our newer members are becoming more familiar with mills and lathes, and are now able to make inserts and fixtures for our aluminum suspension links. Juniors and seniors are assembling parts and writing CAM. In just a few days, they will be running CNCs and machining our custom hubs. Get ready to see some photos of the car coming to life!

Thanks again to all of our donors thus far, and check out our full model below!

$10

Student Engineers

Our fellow student engineers are our daily support network and any help from you is appreciated!

$25

Nuts & Bolts

A donation of $25 would allow us to purchase basic lab supplies including nuts, bolts, gloves, brushes, seals, and organizers that we use on the daily.

$50

Materials

A $50 donation allows us to buy stock material such as tubing and sheet metal that are critical to building the frame, drivetrain, suspension, and unsprung components of our car.

$100

Components

A $100 donation can buy us ball bearings, gears for our driveline, a CVT drive belt, and composites molding materials.

$200

Sensors

A donation of $200 will allow us to purchase electronic components for our Data Acquisition System (DAQ), a critical component for testing and the redesigning process.

$500

Wheels

A contribution of $500 will help buy a team member a flight ticket to competition, an integral and rewarding culminating experience to every member of our team at the end of our academic year. We hope to have every member be able to attend at least one competition to see the results of all of their countless hours of hard work over the course of the entire year.

$1,000

Gasoline

A contribution of $1,000 will help pay for hotels and moving our car across the country for all three competitions.

$2,000

Engine

A donation of $2,000 will allow us to register for a competition, where we will compete with over 200 international teams!

$5,000

Racer

A donation of $5,000 will greatly advance our budget to make investments in newer, better machines that allow us to carry out innovative improvements for not only our car, but the education of all of our members.
