Support Cornell Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT)

We are an undergraduate engineering project team at Cornell that brings together students from multiple majors to design real solutions to real healthcare problems. Over two years, each subteam researches a specific unmet clinical need, develops and prototypes a device or system, and prepares it for translation. At the end of this cycle, our work is submitted to VentureWell’s national Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) competition, where projects are judged on innovation, technical feasibility, marketability, and patentability.

This past October, our Phase 1A and Phase 1B teams traveled to the 2025 BMES Annual Meeting in San Diego and placed first in two separate national competitions.

  • MeyeAttention (Phase 1A) won first place in the Medtronic BMES Student Design Competition in the category “AI/ML Related to Patient Disease Diagnostics.”
  • HemBrace (Phase 1B) won first place in the DEBUT Competition in the category “Healthcare Technologies for Low-Resource Settings.”

Your support helps us keep building. Funding directly covers prototyping supplies, clinical testing materials, travel to present at national conferences, and manufacturing costs. It’s what allows undergraduates to deliver devices aimed at improving diagnosis, accessibility, and patient outcomes.

Thank you for investing in student-led biomedical innovation. We can’t wait to show what we accomplish this coming year.

As a registered student organization, we are committed to equal access to all of our programs and do not discriminate based on any protected identity status.

$10

Local

Your $10 gift helps us purchase essential electronic components such as wires, resistors, and sensors that bring our biomedical device prototypes to life.

$25

Regional

Your $25 gift helps us host skill-building workshops that teach members how to design circuits, model biomedical systems, and run experiments, giving students hands-on engineering experience beyond the classroom.

$50

National

Your $50 gift helps us buy bench equipment and prototyping materials like breadboards, biosensors, and microcontrollers. These tools allow our teams to test, refine, and validate medical technologies that address pressing clinical challenges.

$100

International

Your $100 gift supports advanced prototyping by funding materials such as 3D printer filaments, microfluidic chips, and biocompatible polymers used in device testing. It also helps us host design reviews with faculty mentors to strengthen our engineering rigor.

$500

Continental

Your $500 gift enables DEBUT to host our yearly BME conference that connects student engineers, BME professors, and healthcare professionals. These events foster collaboration and accelerate the translation of student ideas into real-world impact.

$1,000

Global

Your $1,000 donation helps us upgrade lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and 3D printers, empowering members to test medical devices with professional-grade precision and reliability.

$2,500

Worldwide

Your $2,500 gift creates transformational impact. It sustains our largest projects, funding final device fabrication, outreach initiatives with hospitals and nonprofits, and national competitions that showcase Cornell innovation on the world stage.
