Our vehicles Orion and Sirius are the culmination of CUAUV’s over 25 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and competing with AUVs. Our team has worked diligently during the 2023-2024 academic year to complete both vehicles and are proud to showcase them in their current forms. Orion is this year’s project, and will be completely assembled and constructed by competition this July.
Sirius is the sub built during the 2023-2024 academic year, and features a rectangle-shaped “Lunch Box” design that deviates from the traditionally compact vehicles CUAUV produced in past years. The mechanical team utilized underwater servos to actuate manipulators and the torpedo-droppers system. In addition, the team integrated cam followers to actuate two torpedoes and two droppers independently with a single servo. The electronics rack included a fan cooling system designed with computational fluid dynamics.
Orion is our newest sub under development. While it only exists as CAD and schematics today, Orion will come to life over the next five months with your help! Orion will improve on Sirius's design with a single-piece machined hull as well as more robust actuators and manipulator design. For the first time ever, both subs will have a stereo vision front camera for distance detection and a Doppler Velocity Log sensor for centimeter-level positioning. Alongside advances in our machine learning vision and underwater communication, we are confident that these improvements will set us up for success.
Your contribution will allow the team to design, build, and fire a custom torpedo for use in competition!
Your donation will help us buy stock to machine an enclosure to hold one of our AUV's cameras!
Your contribution will go towards printing and populating one of our custom circuit boards!
One of our AUV team members will write you a personal letter expressing our gratitude for your support and sharing insights into our projects and progress.
Thrusters are how our vehicles move around in the water. Your contribution will allow CUAUV to buy a Blue Robotics thruster, making our vehicles even faster!
With your contribution, you'll receive a form allowing you to choose a unique name for one of the parts on our sub!
