Here at Cornell, we take homegrown prospects - regular high school athletes - and train them stroke by stroke to compete against the best in the world. The experience of being on the team at Cornell is unparalleled. When they are not in the classroom, our rowers live, eat, sleep, and breathe rowing. They live together, eat together, train together, succeed and fail together, and the bonds formed in this process last a lifetime.
We are trying to teach not only the technical skills of rowing - the catch, finish, feather, and square - but also important life lessons: how to train at a high level, manage time, have fun in a healthy way, and recover. We also teach how to deal with failures and setbacks so our athletes can respond and keep moving forward, while they're students and well beyond. Cornell Rowing is a place where student athletes get personal attention and are pushed to be the best they can possibly be.
Your gift enables us to have special experiences throughout our season like our Florida training trip, where we spend 10 days in Orlando, FL, and get to focus solely on rowing. It also allows us to have a top-notch fleet of rowing shells. Philanthropy has allowed our program to completely transform and upgrade our facilities to where we now have one of the best facilities in the country (if not the world) to row. For that reason, we are forever grateful for our alumni and friends of Big Red Rowing.
