Mary George Opperman Veterinary Patient Assistance Fund

Mary George Opperman, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, is leaving Cornell in August 2022 after 26 years of service.

Mary has dedicated her career to advancing a workplace that values and supports employees as whole persons. She has been an ardent employee advocate, a devoted ambassador to the local and regional communities, and a true champion for the successes and achievements of our Cornell staff.

She is also an avid lover of animals and has never met a dog she wouldn't dote on. During the pandemic, Mary was often joined in her home office by her snoring American Staffordshire Terrier, Jake. On campus, she has always welcomed visits from the campus K9s - sometimes greeting the dog before saying hello to the accompanying officers.

In the spirit of her unwavering support of Cornell employees and families and her love of animals, the Mary George Opperman Veterinary Patient Assistance Fund has been established in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Funds will go to the care of animals owned by current and retired Cornell staff who may need financial assistance.

To be eligible, veterinary care must be provided by the Cornell University Hospital for Animals.
