About the National Society of Black Engineers

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the academic and professional success of African-American engineering and technical students and professionals. NSBE offers its members leadership training, professional and academic development, mentoring opportunities, community service outreach programs, and scholarships.

Our Fundraising Goal

NSBE Conferences are a key component of the NSBE member experience. Students are able to expand their networks, connect in meaningful ways with company representatives and other Black engineers, and interview for summer internships and full-time positions. We are fundraising to give more NSBE members this opportunity. It can change the trajectory of their careers during and after college. Please consider contributing to our goal!

Our NSBE Chapter

Founded in 1977, NSBE-CU is the premier organization for Black students in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors at Cornell University.  NSBE-CU is a member of the national organization with affiliation to Region One, which serves the Northeastern United States and international chapters.  Through the support of the national organization, the Cornell College of Engineering, and corporate sponsorship, NSBE-CU upholds our mission statement as well as the national directives.

Our Professional Development Initiative

NSBE-CU focuses on recruiting members from all STEM backgrounds, with an emphasis on drawing members from the entering class. NSBE-CU’s community-building activities, sponsored development programs, and leadership opportunities help recruit and retain members who go on to earn degrees in engineering, science, and technology.

Our Academic Excellence Initiative

Our tutorial programs, or 'Study Jams', are held regularly throughout the school year, offering free tutoring and review sessions for general freshman and sophomore engineering courses and hosting post-exam celebrations. NSBE-CU facilitates academic excellence by rewarding deserving members with scholarships and providing mentorship and assistance to struggling students to help them reach their full academic potential.
