Women & Justice: Student Field Work for Global Gender Justice

The Women & Justice Collection, a project of the Legal Information Institute (LII) at Cornell Law School, seeks to facilitate the use of comparative and international law to advance access to justice, equality under the law and, ultimately, socioeconomic autonomy for women around the globe. The funds raised in this crowdfunding campaign will support law student field work in Southern Africa and provide legal resources that advance gender justice worldwide.

What your donation supports:

The Women & Justice Collection provides free online access to global gender justice resources organized by country, region, and international mechanism. It is the first and largest vetted and searchable database of its kind. To further develop the collection and advance its mission, gifts to this campaign will allow Cornell law students to:

-  Work for local gender justice advocacy organizations around the world (this first round will take place in Cape Town, South Africa)

-  Partner with University of Cape Town law students to conduct in-depth, in-country research of gender justice in South Africa

-  Analyze the treatment of gender issues and women’s access to justice, including recommendations for establishing the equal application of the rule of law and women’s socioeconomic autonomy

With your gift, our student researchers can offer legal tools for advocates in the field, create and publish “Know Your Rights” guides in multiple languages, and conduct interviews with local women and gender justice NGOs in South Africa.

Why it matters:

Despite significant advances toward equal rights for women and girls in access to education, workforce participation, and equal treatment under the law, much work still needs to be done. In addition to giving practical training to the next generation of gender justice lawyers, your donation helps advance women’s access to justice and uniform enforcement of the rule of law.

By donating to Women & Justice, you’ll help us bridge the disconnect between the law and on-the-ground realities for women worldwide and close the gap on gender inequality.

Thank you for your support!
