Key Elements Co-ed A Cappella Recording

Thanks to our generous donors, we reached our goal of $5000 on Saturday, November 10th! Because we still have 18 days left in our campaign, we've decided to implement a stretch goal and try to raise $7500 overall. More information about our project is included below.

We Need Your Help

The Key Elements enjoy any opportunity to perform for the Cornell and greater Ithaca communities, whether it’s through concerts or performances at campus events. One of the best ways to capture our unique sound is with professional recording, and we want to showcase Cornell students’ hard work and talent. However, we do not receive any university funding for projects such as album recordings, and it has been almost four years now since our group released new music with our 2015 album, Catalyst. Your gift would make it possible to share our music with friends, family, and the world. This album will also help us in our recruitment efforts to welcome singers into our family.

About The Key Elements

The Key Elements was founded in 1989 as Cornell’s first and only co-ed rock a cappella group. We perform many types of contemporary music, including a classic rock song each semester to keep us grounded in our love of rock music. We put on one major concert a semester: Rocktoberfest in the Fall and Brave The Elements in the Spring. In addition, we have also performed by request at various campus events such as Bring Your Child to Work Day, Shabbat Dinner at the Center for Jewish Living, and the ILE Executive Education Dinner. We have recently been on tour to Boston, D.C., NYC, and even internationally to Ireland.

In addition to providing musical opportunities for Cornellians, The Key Elements also provides many leadership opportunities within our group that help students with their professional development. The group is entirely student-run and every member is encouraged to take an active role. This interdependence and shared responsibility helps foster a sense of community that lasts far beyond our time at Cornell.

Lasting Impact

This community is important to so many people because it gives them a chance to connect with people they would never have otherwise met. Bound together by a love of music, the Key Elements is a place where diverse people with so many different interests can form lifelong friendships. At our concerts, alumni that have graduated the semester before and alumni that have never sung in the group with the current members come back to support us and are in the front row cheering the loudest. The Key Elements is not just a group of singers, it's a family. With this album we can show our family our commitment to musicality and preserve our current voice for future members to experience.
