HELP US TRAVEL TO PERU AND WIN THE SPANISH DEBATE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!
Who We Are:
The Cornell Spanish Debate team is the most competitive team of its kind in the United States. In the most recent World's Universities Debating Championship in Spanish held in Chile, the team won first place in ELE division. They also won the Pan American Universities Debating Championship, held in Atlanta. This October, four Cornell teams traveled to Mexico City to compete in El Torneo Metropolitano de Debate held in Mexico City. Three teams broke to quarterfinals, and one made it to the finals. This great success has brought tremendous recognition and popularity on the Cornell campus. As a result, the Cornell Spanish Debate team substantially increases its membership each year.
Our Vision:
We believe that our team has the potential to win the open world championship this year. However, due to the nature of Spanish debate, the majority of the tournaments take place internationally. As the team grows, more resources are needed to ensure members have the opportunity to compete. Crowdfunding gifts will be used for tournament registration fees and travel expenses to the coming world championship in Lima, Peru in the summer of 2019. Funds will also support regional, national and international travel to competitions which help prepare the teams for this world championship.

The impact of Cornell Spanish Debate goes beyond winning trophies. Your gift will empower the Spanish-speaking community at Cornell by helping non-native speakers improve their Spanish and providing a forum for native speakers to express their arguments in their preferred language. By supporting the Spanish Debate team at Cornell, you are strengthening the entire Speech & Debate program by encouraging its commitment to diversity. Further, the team facilitates the spread of competitive Spanish debate through outreach with peer institutions. These efforts promote the mission of Cornell Speech & Debate, which is to champion civil discourse and encourage critical thinking and reasoned argument in the U.S. and globally.

Your contribution will help fund local transportation in Peru: buses and taxis to travel to and from the tournament venue in Lima.
Your contribution will go to local accommodations and lodging in Peru for a team of debaters.
Your contribution will help provide food for the team at a tournament so that everyone is able to debate on a full stomach.
Your contribution will pay for the tournament registration fee for one team and one judge.
Your contribution will fund all expenses for 2 teams of debaters to travel to and compete in Peru.
